Tinnitus Care & Management in Narooma

You're not imagining it, and you're not alone.

Tinnitus — that ringing, buzzing, hissing or humming in the ears that no one else can hear — affects around 1 in 6 Australian adults. Whether it's occasional or constant, mild or overwhelming, it's real, and it can be managed.

At Hear Well – Live Well, we don't just test your hearing. We listen to your story, help you understand what might be driving your tinnitus, and work with you to build a management plan that fits your life — right here on the South Coast.

"Our goal isn't just to measure your tinnitus. It's to help you feel heard, understood, and supported."

    What tinnitus actually is

Tinnitus isn't a disease — it's a symptom. It's the brain's response to a change somewhere in the hearing system, which is why it so often goes hand-in-hand with hearing loss. For most people it's "subjective" (only you can hear it). Understanding what kind you have is the first step to easing it.

    What might be causing it

There's rarely a single cause. Common contributors we look at include:

Hearing loss — the most common link, even mild or high-frequency loss
Noise exposure — work, music, firearms or machinery over the years
Earwax build-up — sometimes a simple, fixable factor (see earwax removal)
Stress, fatigue and jaw or neck tension
Certain medications or general health changes

Part of our job is to gently work out which of these apply to you — and flag anything that needs a GP or specialist referral.

How we help — our approach

    1

Assess — a full hearing check plus a conversation about your tinnitus, your health and your day-to-day life.

    2

Explain — we talk you through what we found, in plain language, so it finally makes sense.

    3

Plan — together we choose the options that suit you, and we put medical referral in place if it's needed.

You'll never be rushed, and you'll never be sold something you don't need.

    Management options we may explore

Tinnitus rarely has a "quick fix," but there's a lot that genuinely helps:

Sound therapy — using gentle background sound to make the tinnitus less noticeable
Hearing aids — if hearing loss is involved, amplifying everyday sound often softens tinnitus (see hearing aids & fittings)
Practical strategies — sleep, stress, focus and relaxation techniques that reduce how much tinnitus intrudes
Hearing protection — preventing further noise damage
Referral — when medical follow-up is the right next step

    What support looks like

A safe, pressure-free space to talk about your symptoms
Hearing tests to check for underlying issues
Strategies to manage tinnitus, reduce stress, and improve focus
Help with hearing aids or sound therapy if needed
Referrals when medical follow-up is required

Not sure where to start? A hearing test is often the simplest first step.
